COUPLES COUNSELLING
- Has
communication broken down?
- Could
you benefit from an impartial listener?
- Would
you like a chance to talk and listen in a structured setting?
Couples counselling provides a safe and supportive environment
away from daily life to talk, listen, express feelings and reflect
and better understand how you feel and how you interact in your
relationship.
Relationship and Marriage Counselling provides the opportunity
to untangle misunderstandings and see your relationship from a
different perspective.
Appointments are available in Charlbury, West Oxfordshire.
Are you feeling .....
- you cannot make yourself heard or understood by your
partner?
- you cover the same ground again and again without improvement?
- you are afraid to discuss certain topics with your partner?
- you feel alone or confused?
- you can't live together or/and you can't live apart?
When should you consider couples counselling?
Some couples hesitate coming for counselling when problems
start to appear for fear that 'going to counselling' confirms
something is wrong. It takes courage to admit to problems.
Couples rarely come to work on their relationship 'too early'';
they often come as a 'last chance' when relations are at crisis
point. The sooner you come, the better the chances of avoiding
irreparable resentment and bitterness.
What will happen?
- You as Individuals: I will first
want to know a little bit about each of you, your background
and what makes you 'tick';
- Why You are Here: What your problems
are and what you hope to achieve from couples counselling;
- You as a Couple: Understanding
how you as individuals relate to each other; what assumptions
are being made; where confusion and misunderstanding has set
in; and what your strengths are.
- A New Way: Trying things differently
with a better appreciation of the impact certain actions make.
I will also hope to help you understand better the diffences
between what your partner said and what you hear.
Counselling provides you with the chance to say the things you have
been holding back. You can find out how you
are being heard by your partner. What you mean and what
your partner thinks you mean can be vastly different!
And you will have a chance to find a way forward.
What are the Outcomes?
Only you, as individuals, know what is best and right for you.
Often, the solution is right under your noses. It is not my
job to make your decisions. I am here to understand your motives
and help you find the healthiest way forward. The three outcomes are:
- Compromise - there are enough
good things about your relationship to accept the problems and
try to find ways of easing them;
- Part Company - if the future
does not feel bearable or is destructive, the decision to end the relationship may be the
only healthy outcome;
- Refresh Your Relationship - start
re-building your relationship by working together to try things
in a new way with a greater sensitivity and understanding of
each other's needs.
